It’s a boy! (kitten)

March 7, 2010

So, we went to get flea medicine for Mavado (or Lil’Mo as he’s sometimes called, actually I just yell “Kitten!” and he comes running) and we end up getting another kitten.  We didn’t get him from the pet store, he was being taken care of by another shop owner that the pet store lady knew.   His name is Yoda and he’s TINY!

Here is Mo meeting Yoda for the first time:

Yoda is part Turkish Van which is why he has such unusual markings on his head and tail.  They’re also unusual because they like water, which was amazing when we bathed him.  I have never given a cat a more pleasant bath, I’m used to being clawed to death!  He didn’t care at all.  Mavado, on the other hand, always acts like we’re trying to drown him.

Mo still hasn’t come to the realization that we got this new little guy FOR him, and he’s very jealous and pissed.  There have been some signs of wanting to play with each other though.  Tonight Mo got super-frisky and tried to play but Yoda was too freaked out, he got all puffy and hissy.  I just find it hilarious when something so cute tries to look so mean, I was laughing my ass off.  Watching them is better than having a TV.  Since we only got the new one yesterday, I think it’s a pretty good sign that they’ll be playing with each other soon.

I know I’ve been a bad blogger lately and I apologize.  I’ve just been really preoccupied with getting the house ready and finishing up some work projects before Nasrin arrives.  I’ve also made some new friends here which is so exciting for me.  I feel like I’m finally getting a social life back, which I’ve been desperately craving!  The only downside is they’re both English teachers and their both leaving in June when their contracts are up.  I understand though, we want to move out of Adana as well.  There’s far more interesting places to be.

My mom is going to be here in ten days and then we’re going to go into baby-prep overdrive!  I’m so excited to see her, it’s been since June!  I’ve never gone that long without seeing my mom.  She’s staying with us for six weeks.  I have a feeling that with everything going on I may not be blogging much, but I’ll try to keep you guys updated!  You can also friend me on Facebook if you haven’t already (click on the facebook link to go to my profile).

Yes, my name is Jen and I am a Facebook addict.  “Hi Jen…”

Help preggo win some treats!

January 28, 2010

You don’t really have to do anything to help, just check out my friend’s blog.

I’ve entered Kilax’s favorite things giveaway, which is particularly exciting for me since she’s been kind enough to open it to international folks such as myself.  This is my first, and maybe last opportunity to win something once she gets a load of international shipping rates!  Mwahahahaa… (j/k)  The giveaway includes such yummy favs of mine like gourmet peanut butter, Luna bars and Dots!!

I get an extra entry by linking to her post on my blog so all my friends can check it out as well.  Besides that, Kim is an awesome blogger; her topics are always timely and thought provoking, plus she just an all-around badass chick!  Stop by and give her a read sometime.

This idea comes straight from GingerMandy’s post about her annoying pregnant relatives.  Even I’m not immune to how annoying constant prego-chatter can be.  I have a lot of pregnant/new mom friends, which is awesome, but sometimes it’s a topic discussed into the ground over on Facebook pages.  Also known as TMI, and mommies can be some the worst offenders–no, I do not want to know what your baby’s poop smelled like!

So GingerMandy and her friend have invented LolFetus, just like Lolcats, only with fetuses.  Brilliant.  I had to Lol my fetus asap.

Don’t make bebeh angry…

Blog Award, who me?

November 7, 2009

The fabulous and funny Leese gave me my very first blog award a few weeks ago.

As the hicks at my old high school used to say, “I was shocked as sh!t.”  I was especially shocked because I almost missed it, this girl blogs so much I can barely keep up!  I wish I had that kind of writing stamina.

I felt it was only right to pass this onto my other good blog friends.  It was so hard to decide though!  So since this is the “Good Friends” blog award, I picked out a few people whom I’ve really gotten to know over the months and have always been good friends to me.

Amanda Blog and Kiss

Girl From the Ghetto

I really feel like I could give this award to everyone on my blog roll, and I’m just starting to get to know more of them.  Like I said, it was so hard to choose just a couple, but these women have been around for a long time.  To everyone to reads and comments on my blog, you are all good friends.  Thank you so much, Love you all!!

Cleanin’ out my closet AKA random stuff from my blog folder

October 16, 2009

I have a blog folder on my computer, I’m sure I’m not the only one.  It’s just a growing image folder that contains random pictures that I’ve grabbed off the internet, thinking “hey I can write a blog about that!” but then it gets filed away and forgotten.  Well no more!  Time to clean out my blog folder.

As I was going through them, some clear category emerged.  Number 1:

  • Crazy foreigners on scooters…

This topic fascinates me because I see this all the time in Turkey.  Set belt?  Nah.  Helmet?  Nah.  Weight restriction?  Nah.  Child seat?  Nah.  Legal?  Yep!

For me this was part of the culture shock from styrofoam-encased, over-protected America.

Category 2:

  • Pictures of Austin:

Can you tell I’m homesick?  It’s a beautiful city, go if you ever get the chance.

Category 3:

  • LOLcats (and one dog)

I sent this one to my best friend as soon as I found it. She has this cat.

Category 4:

  • Pictures of my cats

Ecko. Silly kitty jumped off the roof to the top of the patio umbrella, but then was stuck.

I miss them, but they’re livin’ fat and happy at my mom’s so it’s okay.

Category 5:

  • Just plain random…

Welp, that’s it for now.  Thanks for helping me clean out my closet, now go have a kickass Friday!

All Quiet On The Blogging Front

July 28, 2009

I’ve noticed a general silence this week among most of my blog friends, in both posting and commenting…myself included.  Hope everyone is okay!  Probably just busy with life…myself included.

As you can see I’ve been slowly but surely catching up with my Weeds recaps, although I’m not sure if many people are interested.  That’s okay, I’ll just keep on plugging and hope that I can find some fans will find me through google or something.

So this is sort of an update post on what’s been going on in my life.

In general I’ve been bogged down with work.  New clients keep crawling out of the woodwork, as it seems that we are the only kids in town who know anything about Linux.  Microsoft has all the technicians here pretty well brainwashed, so there is a serious need for good Linux solutions.  Because anyone who knows anything knows that Microsoft is crap.  I can’t go into too much detail because of confidentiality agreements, but one client needs to be able to send streaming video web broadcasts from around the world, and another client needs an automated sound decibel monitoring device for clubs.  I tell you, coffee shops are excellent places to make new connections!

In some tragic news, my favorite cat, Otis went missing from my mom’s three weeks ago and has not been seen since.  If you remember, we were sharing a house with my mom, so he was very comfortable with the environment, and didn’t run away because of a sudden change.  Our cats and dog go in and out as they please through the dog door, and out of all my cats I’d say Otis was the most “street smart” and usually pretty cautious.  My mom put fliers with a picture on every door up and down the block, but she got no calls.  I have a feeling he’s not coming back.  I’m devastated.  I spent a whole day in bed a few weeks ago crying.  The worst part is I’m thousands of miles away and I can’t help look for him.  I kept having dreams about finding him, I’d wake up and call my mom to see if there was any news, but there never was.  He lives in my dreams now.

My poor Bubs...I hope you're in a better place.

My poor Bubs...I hope you're in a better place.

Okay, enough tears and sadness, I have good news too!

Where there is death, there is always new life.  I just found out a few days ago, it’s really early, probably only a few weeks.  We’re super excited, we’ve been wanting this for awhile and we just started trying.  I haven’t told the whole family yet, just my parents and some close friends, so please don’t say anything about it on my Turkish blog or on Facebook.  I’m waiting a few more weeks to tell everyone.  I’ve got my fingers and toes crossed that everything will go okay.  I’m such a worrier.

Password Protect Your Ass

July 15, 2009

I wouldn’t call this an official “rant” because I’m not really angry about this, more like mildly annoyed.  I’m finding a lot of my blog friends posting password protected posts.  The first few times, I was intrigued, but now I just find it annoying.  I went to your page to read your BLOG, not go look up your email address, and then ask to be let into your secret club.  I don’t have time.  On the few occasions that I did ask for someones password, by the time I got it, I had lost the motivation to complete the transaction.

Now…I understand, you want to protect your ass.  You don’t want the prying eyes of your boss, wife/husband, child or neighbor peaking in on all the dirt you’re spilling on them.  I dig.  I’ve been burned before myself.  Back when I was 18 I went out on a date with this nice guy, but then dished on my blog the next day about how horrible he kissed and how creepy it was, and he totally found it.  It was horrible.  I felt like a douche bag, and I’m sure he felt worse.

But, if you can count the number of people on two hands that you actually want to read your post, why not send it in a email?  Or there’s this thing that you write in, you remember that thing with the blank pages and the little heart shaped lock?  What’s it called again?  Oh yeah, a diary.  They’re great for keeping secrets.

Blogs are blogs, not diaries.  They’re public, especially these WordPress ones.  Does it make me nervous that my family could Google “Jen512” and find this?  A little, but I don’t talk shit about them (except my step-sister, and she’s too cracked-out to use the internet), I just cuss a lot.  I don’t talk shit because I learned a long time ago that blogs are not the place for that.  All those other thing you don’t want people reading about…just don’t write it.  There’s lots about my life that I don’t talk about here, and wont.  I keep my secrets, well you know, secret.

I won’t stop reading your blog, don’t get me wrong.  I want to read every secret you have, I’m just no willing to work for it.

[This concludes my un-official rant…thanks, I feel better now.]

Whack-A-Kitty, Even Peta Says It’s Okay!

May 29, 2009

I got my first blog shout-out this week from the very funny Amanda Blog and Kiss.

So as a thank you, here is one of her favorite things:  cute animals caught on tape.

This is for you Amanda!

This video, believe it or not, stirred up a little controversy on the web regarding animal cruelty.  Are you freaking crazy?  Cats getting bopped lightly on the head with a padded cardboard tube is not cruel, it’s down right adorable.  Even Peta agrees, their statement on the video was this: “The video is cute. We don’t see any abuse.”
